For those of you who can’t tell from previous posts or who are just tuning in, it’s time to let the cat out of the bag. Uncle Luther is a Presbyterian. However, that doesn’t mean he’s going to go soft on his own people. Ready? Here goes nothin’…
You might be a Presbyterian if…
- Your pastor is currently on part 23 of a 12 part series.
- You have made Jesus lord of your life, but you’re still holding on to your wallet with all your might.
- You’ve ever caught yourself praying in the name of Calvin.
- You believe God has predestined the elect to eternal life, but have a strong desire to witness to people on airplanes.
- You refer to The Westminster Confession as “The Newer Testament.”
- When asked for advice you’ve ever responded by saying: “Deal with it.”
- Everywhere you look you see evidence of depravity.
- You think “Matthew 18” is an entire chapter devoted to church discipline and conflict resolution.
- You know what the “Doctrines of Grace” are.
- You prefer tulips to daisies.
- You understood #10.
- When confronted with someone’s pain, your first thought is about God’s role in suffering instead of what you can do to help.
- You have ever tried to convert other Christians to Calvinism.
- You thank God daily for the ESV Bible translation.

I’m sorry, but my religious perspective is a lot more different. I have been raised and taught Catholic, but I’m not in most ways thinking like one. At the same time, I’m not acting very much like a Buddhist too.
There used to be many books that really have the ultimate answer to predestination and freewill back then in the West (the ones in the East are still preserved, but both approach are not very similar, yet the conclusion and analysis are the same).
Anyway, these books were burnt back in Germany. There are only a few left, and most people aren’t willing to share it out, because it’s still very radical and controversial despite that the books had been passed down for I-don’t-know years..But they’re really really antiques, for sure. And so, if they did pass it out, Germany or maybe most Europeans would demand to have it burned again. I don’t know a lot of the updates, but some people are going against the norm by digging deeper and recovering whatever they could just to get their spiritual questions ended with a lot more ease than not doing so.
And yes, the people of the past had already found the ultimate answer to the topic of God, predestination, freewill, and depravity.
Come to think of it, Buddhism is quite Calvinistic…haha! I just realized this. That was why I asked a Buddhist monk (who’s in the progress of taking nuts-diet) how to tell if someone is the reincarnation of Buddha (so is the chosen one). The only difference between two religions is that it seems like Buddha doesn’t want to let people know of who’s really the chosen one or not, *I think.*
I used to persuade mom that Protestanism is actually a lot closer to Buddhism last year, but she firmly pushed me away saying that Mama Mary is the Catholic version of one of the Buddhas in Buddhism.
I can’t persuade her. She doesn’t really believe what I say when it comes to religious stuff. Probably she finds her identity at threat, and if I pushed further, she would say that I’m being radical and going off the wrong path. The difference between her and me digging for more valid information is one of my hobbies, but mom would say that she’s old enough not to be capable for more improvement.
But I guess some of my thoughts and questions that I gave the monk in front of her made her realize that I’m actually digging in the right sources for information in the internet…
Maybe there’re still more differences between the two religions. I kept on seeing more similarities between two cultures this year! Perhaps the people of the past were more aware of this than those of today!
Oh, I go along with #2, 13, 14, and the first part of 5.
